Betty's parents gave her a guitar when she was a child.   She started writing music at a very young age.  She briefly took piano lessons as a youngster, but quickly became more interested in the guitar.  She has taken a few guitar lessons over the years, but generally is self taught.   She studied voice under Lena Barrier at Stephens College in MO, Sonny Rios in Duncanville, TX and recently some lessons from Dr David Judisch in Decorah, IA.  Betty Anne resigned from her music when she graduated from University of Iowa  with a degree in Physical Therapy.  She practiced physical therapy in Texas before retiring to a farm near Decorah, IA. (Pictured above). She and her husband quickly realized that the summers in Iowa were delightful, but they prefer Texas the rest of the time!  They live in Austin, Texas and return to the farm for the summer.  Her passion for music has re-appeared and she is joyfully singing, writing and playing her own music again in her studio on the quiet farm and in Austin.   The original music, Just a Girl and a Guitar, was  recorded in the little red building, on the second floor of the farm granary just to the  right of the barn in the picture.  All of the videos were recorded in their home in Austin.  The live video was when she performed in her front yard for friends and neighbors in Austin.  Betty Anne believes that music has the ability to transform us to another place and time.  She harnesses this with her thought provoking lyrics and haunting vocals.  Check out her original music and some covers below.  Her original music on Just a Girl and a Guitar can also be found on multiple streaming platforms, including, but not limited to: Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Unlimited, TikTok and YouTube.
